Tenseiga is insistent. He's come all the way here, all because it seeks to save this miserable soul.
The fox boy and the otter. Their cries shouldn't sink in. They shouldn't have any effect on him whatsoever. He's above this. Love and generosity were two things that he never inherited from his father.
At first, holding the power over someone's life had been invigorating. It was a power no one else had, a power he had started to master for himself. His intentions were never to use this power, but time and again, Tenseiga pulled and pulsed and he gave in to his father's gift.
The power to give life, he knows now, is a burden that he only bears for the respect of his father and his own goals. It is not for Tenseiga that he sweeps the blade over the body, proves to Inuyasha and his friends that he can wield this power as expertly as father and slays the emmissaries. It is for himself, to relieve this burden, this strange ache that resonates in time with his sword.
To lose one's father is a harsh blow. He remembers well how it felt to see his father go off to battle one last time. It is easy to walk away, to return to Rin and Jaken and continue his pursuit of Naraku, but it takes much more strength to search himself and save a soul he has no attachment to.
