Title: Sea-Salt Ice Cream
Fandom: Bleach/Kingdom Hearts crossover
Characters/Pairings: Byakuya, Namine
Rating: PG
Warnings: None, really
Author Note: Daddy asked for this! :3 All for my Daddy. It's not exact, but it came from a point in time in our own chatplay where Namine bought Byakkun some ice cream.
Summary: "You don't know about sentimentality?"
He's never had ice cream before. He hates sweets period. He only keeps them on hand back home because he knows it's the best way to rid himself of Yachiru. He's never indulged in them and Hisana was never particular about her foods.
Somehow, it's more than manners when he takes the ice cream offered to him by the girl and gives it a hesitant lick. It's sweet, yet salty, a strange combination that he neither likes nor dislikes, but finds himself distracted by nonetheless. The marvels of the world outside of the Seireitei are amazing and while he can't say he'd go out of his way to find more of this strange ice cream, it's enough to pass the time in this town of twilight.
The lack of plant life and koi ponds is bothersome, but it slips his mind quickly that they don't thrive here as she finishes her ice cream and he has to quickly go back to his to avoid a rather sticky mess.
"A winner..." She muses aloud and he stares out of the corner of his eye to catch her gaze.
"Is that significant?"
"I can get a free one when I go back next time."
He's never had need to worry about free things, so he's not entirely sure what it is about that stick that makes it special.
"Maybe I'll give it to Riku..."
"It's customary to give sticks as gifts?"
He's not sure how to take the look he's given--even for him it seems unreadable.
"You don't know about sentimentality?"
Sentimentality is lost on those who already have everything. But, thinking back, Hisana was happiest, not when he bought her an expensive kimono or brought her back beautiful jewelry, but when they watched the cherry blossoms or took walks together and he was happiest when he got those rare times to sit and enjoy a cup of tea with her. Could that be sentimentality?
He hates how much she seems to remind him of her...
"I have no need for such a thing."
