Title: Unity
Fandom: Vampire Knight
Characters/Pairings: Kaname/Yuuki
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers if you haven't read the latest chapters of the manga
Author Note: Kaname's so cute. Anyway, it's been a while since I last wrote VK, so I thought I'd attempt it while I have a tiny bit of muse for it.
Summary: She doesn't belong in either world.
She knows that she is not accepted among them. She knows that they will forever scorn her and her new position in life. The women who wanted to ensnare Kaname now have no chance. The families who wanted to control the Pureblood race have found themselves quivering in fear as he turns an apathetic eye on them, speaks politely, but laced with a deadly threat should any oppose his rule.
It's necessary, she knows. It's necessary that she put up with her contempt, smile the best welcoming smile she has, to show them the unity of the Kuran, to provide the Pureblood King with his Queen and remind them that where one will be, the other will follow and punishment will be swift for challenging the power of a Pureblood.
The Hunters look down upon her as well. They see her as nothing more than a bloodsucker, something that needs to be monitored and killed on sight if she should bear her fangs at anyone remotely human.
She doesn't belong in either world. When she was 'human' she was a normal girl with normal friends and perhaps a not-so-normal after school job and a terrible past she couldn't remember, but normal. She's always wanted this chance to stand beside Kaname-sama, no, her nii-sama, always wanted to know who she was, what her purpose was, why the world seemed out to get her. As a vampire, as her rightful place beside him, she's sneered at, as if she's stolen a precious prize, that she was better off in hiding. They despise her--it shows through in their sickeningly sweet smiles.
"Yuuki..." For once since the party began, his smile his kind and sweet, genuine and welcoming.
Maybe she doesn't belong in vampire society or with humans, she remembers, gliding over to him with poise practiced for weeks on end with Aidou-sempai, in a dress that her nii-sama gave to her, especially, but she knows that she does belong by Kaname's side, no matter where that may be.
