Title: Hairy Situations
Fandom: Bleach
Characters/Pairings: Ichigo; Komamura, Ukitake, Kenpachi, Byakuya, Yachiru
Rating: PG
Warnings: : D Beware the poor attempts at crack ahead! That means the characters will be OOC.
Author Note: This you can blame on the random generators. It's been giving me pairings with fricking 'make-over' left and right. Ichigo wasn't in the original version, but this one came out much better than the last. I need a crack boost to finish Daddy's and since I'm running on little sleep, I'd thought, hell, I'll see if I got what it takes to make a little bit of funny. xD
Summary: Soul Society seems to be a really scary place when shinigami are bored.
Dedication: None
Prompt: Make-overs
Ichigo knows that everyone's been torn apart with all that's happened. He knows he'll never understand the feelings of those who trusted people like Aizen, will never know what it's like to be betrayed by family and friends, to lose what's most important when someone needs another, but he knows that he won't pity them because they don't seek it. They're all strong, even Hanatarou, and so, while it may seem strange that they're walking through the human world together, shopping of all things, at least it isn't the world of the living that's demolished their beliefs.
"I have spent sleepless nights searching," Komamura says, musing aloud, it seems. "I search, even now and I still haven't found the answer that I know should be right in front of me. I don't know what it may be, or why it eludes me, but I know it can't be far. Have you any advice?"
Ukitake, as always, is wearing his sagely expression, eyes downcast. It's an unspoken language between these captains that Ichigo's never understood, but he listens anyway. It's not every day that they seem so scattered and broken. A long, hard-fought battle has wrought a lot of things that might be unusual on a lot of people. He knows his friends aren't the only ones who suffered through this ordeal. "It's not so easy to find an answer. We've all looked and I haven't found an answer for myself. It feels a little strange to say it, but I'm at a loss."
He glances over to the usually blood-thirsty Kenpachi who doesn't look as somber as the rest, but there's certainly something odd about the way he isn't shrugging it off with a laugh. "Who cares? You'll find something else to whine about soon enough."
"Milk," Byakuya suddenly intervenes, appearing as serious as the conversation was just moments ago. All eyes fall on the noble, but none of them seem nearly as surprised at the apparent joke as he is. Their intrigue lies less in surprise and more into consideration, and Ichigo's pretty sure that it's not normal to be curious about milk in a conversation that has nothing to do with it. Then again, Ichigo can't tell if it really is a joke, or if they really think milk will answer their problems.
"Milk?" Komamura asks as they turn into a shop, intrigue obvious. "It seems suitable for cats, but I didn't think it'd be for others as well."
"That's true. I've heard some very good things about using milk, but I often have trouble finding enough of it. It isn't stocked enough... it's incredibly hard to store it without any ice and so expensive to waste," Ukitake agrees.
"Huh..." Kenpachi frowns. "Really? Milk?"
Byakuya gives an affirmative nod and the four of them stop and gather around a shelf of hair-care products. "It promotes softness and a healthy sheen in hair and skin," he answers, plucking a bottle of shampoo off of the shelf.
"W-what?!" Ichigo's outburst catches their attention and for a minute, four of Soul Society's strongest are staring at him, some with a look of pure evil while others are more surprised.
"Have you some reason for following us, Ichigo Kurosaki?" comes the obviously irritated demand for an answer from the sixth division captain.
Ichigo furrows his brow, not sure if it really is wise to pursue it. It's not a big deal, being caught by surprise. "Sorry, don't let me interrupt you..." He grumbles.
"Did you have a better solution, Ichigo? " Ukitake urges. "We don't mind. Feel free to tell us."
He's pretty sure three out of the four do mind, but he doesn't bring that fact up either. "I was just surprised, that's all..."
"Surprised?" Komamura asks and Ichigo's more intimidated by him now than when he'd first seen him.
He frowns and, if it weren't for the fact that the Women's Association and their less-than-lucky companions were the other way, he probably would have ran off by now. He's not a coward, but he knows when he really should keep his mouth shut and this is just one of those things. "Hair-care's not really as big a deal as you make it."
It's if he's cut Kenpachi, called Byakuya a princess, thrown mud in Komamura's face and, yes, even Ukitake looks a little unnerved by the sudden words.
"What're you talkin' about?" Kenpachi snaps.
"As captains, we must set high standards for ourselves," Byakuya says.
Komamura nods. "If we don't take pride in ourselves, how can we expect others to?"
Ukitake smiles reassuringly. "It's a more relaxing thing to concern ourselves with."
Ichigo really isn't convinced. It seems kinda pointless to him, but he has noticed things about the captains of the Gotei 13 that sort of fits in... Kyouraku is the only one who doesn't seem worried about the state of his hair, though, with that kimono, he really doubts anyone is paying attention to his hair.
"Pfft, not like it matters to you." Kenpachi's grin is lopsided. "Look at your hair."
"It's hardly worth mentioning," Byakuya agrees.
"He is one who obviously doesn't care for proper appearance," Komamura says.
"Look at those split-ends. And it's dry, a little brittle. You really should have someone take a look at it," Ukitake suggests, ruffling Ichigo's hair experimentally.
It's almost as if something evil and very, very creepy has settled amongst them, the air growing cold and dark, something even worse than the dark night sky of Hueco Mundo. Ichigo takes a step back on reflex, but it's not enough reassurance. If anything else, it's made things worse, revealed a fear. Like a cornered animal... he just wants to get the fuck outta there.
"Hey... don't we have a hair appointment?" Kenpachi sneers.
"Rukia will be pleased to hear another has volunteered his services," Byakuya replies.
Komamura turns back to the shelf and for just a moment, he thinks at least one of them will have mercy on him. "We'll need to purchase the milk before we return. I have always wanted a milk bath."
Ichigo grins when they seem distracted enough, comparing bottles of shampoo, for him to escape, but the moment he goes to turn, there's a hand on his elbow. "Why don't you join us, Ichigo? We could use the extra hands." Ukitake is a hell of a lot stronger than he appears, his smile, while seemingly innocent, too, holds some sinister sense of humor that he's not really in the mood to find out. "The girls will be happy to hear they have a new doll."
"A new doll?!" Yachiru's head pops out of no where, peering over Kenpachi's large shoulder, her mouth open wide in a curious 'o' shape. "We get to play with Ichi's hair too?!"
Again that sense of impending doom falls on him as each of the captains glance at him.
If these are the kind of things that they did in their spare time... he'll hang up Zangetsu for good. Soul Society seems to be a really scary place when shinigami are bored.
