He lost track of time.
The rain didn't show mercy.
The simple reality refused to sink in so readily. If he stared enough, perhaps the world would change its mind and surrender to him? No, that was just stupid, even he knew that. He grew up believing that those who called themselves his parents were invincible. He liked that little world. Now that that reality had been shattered so easily, he had no where to turn. He couldn't go home. How could he? Home wasn't home anymore, not without Dad.
"Karman."
He didn't look up. He didn't acknowledge him physically. If he moved, he probably wouldn't be able to stand up. Everything was simply... numb.
"Come home, Karman. Your mother is surely worried."
Go away...
"Karman, are you listening?"
Shut up.
"Standing here, falling ill, will not make things better."
"Just shut up!" His legs refused to move, but his boiling blood refused to let the pestering go. "I want to be alone! Don't you get it?! Go away!"
Moses made a sound behind him. Panic followed the course of his anger. Moses seemed so unfeeling sometimes that it pissed him off. He was allowed to feel that way, but just because he said it, didn't mean he actually meant it. Wasn't he supposed to be some sort of translator? Idiot...
"You are not expected to go through this alone. Do you remember what Irene asked you when she lost that favorite cousin of hers?"
He remembered it clearly. Moses had stayed in the back, giving him room to be beside Irene who he'd taken a liking to. He'd always wanted the chance to stand beside her and take care of her, but when the chance came, the gestures such as holding hands felt empty and lonely. He hadn't seen her since that day, at the funeral, when she had asked him just one simple thing that she said would take the pain away.
"You may ask me," Moses pressed.
Karman grit his teeth, groping out blindly until he found it. "Then don't be stupid. You should'a said something before."
Moses wrapped his fingers around the icy hand, giving a brief little tug. "I cannot read minds, Karman. My Aunt is coming over tonight. Why not join us for supper?"
"But my mom..."
Moses pulled again. "Come."
"idiot." Finally, he managed to turn, to greet the boy who was just as wet as he was, staring with curiosity and understanding. "You're a mess."
His friend ignored his statement, lips quirking. "Now is the time for you. Worry about yourself, Karman, and I will hold your hand to guide you."
